17 May 2005 has been set as the first International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) to raise public awareness towards society’s unequal treatment of its sexual minority populations. With the goal of promoting an environment that embraces diversity, Hong Kong, in conjunction with many parts of the world, will hold its first International Day Against Homophobia by marching in one of the busiest local neighborhoods.

The Tongzhi Community Joint Meeting (TCJM) of Hong Kong, a coalition of gay and lesbian activist groups, are organising a march next Monday, May 16th, a public holiday in the territory to mark the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO).
